Workshop on Multiple-choice questions

On February 15th,  the Center for Medical Development at the University of Damascus hosted a workshop, with collaboration from the Center for Medical Education and Development and Research and Health Services from the Suez Canal University in Egypt, on the design of multiple-choice questions in medical colleges.Dr. Wael Mualla, President of Damascus University, said that this session is important in view of topics addressed and beneficial reflections expressed on the development of the educational process in medical colleges. Multiple-choice question tests  are one of the primary methods used to evaluate students at the different faculties at the University of Damascus and benefiting from the experiences of other universities  will help in directing the education process to achieve the strategic goals of the university.Dr. Hayam Bashour, director of the Center for Medical Development, said that this session comes in response to the importance of training for the formulation of multiple-choice questions, especially in medical colleges which rely on this method of evaluation of its students.  She noted that the instructors from the Suez Canal University have rich experience in the field of medical education and quality assurance within their own university, but also other universities and by World Health Organization standards.And included in the four-day workshop, were lectures about the education goals at different levels, the formulation of multiple-choice questions at several levels, the rules and common mistakes of multiple-choice tests, as well as analysis of the results of multiple-choice tests.
