On March 4th, Dr. Jamal Abbas, the Party Branch Secretary of Damascus University, and Dr. Wael Mualla, the President of Damascus University, opened an internet lab in the Faculty of Civil Engineering aiming to help students obtain the required information for their research and studies.
The lab will provide for college students access to scientific websites on the network free of charge.
Dr. Mualla noted that the University continues to seek to ensure all educational and computer services for its students, allowing them access to the internet and hence to databases and electronic libraries. And the plan to develop the Faculty of Civil Engineering is not limited to a computer room, but rather includes the development of the whole infrastructure of the faculty, where approximately 170 million Syrian pounds were appropriated from the university's own resources for the development of the faculty's laboratories and a portion for purchasing modern equipment.
For his part, Dr. Amjad Zeno, the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, said that the faculty set a two-year plan for the development of all the laboratories and the creation of an internet lab is the first step in the implementation of this plan.
Engineer Hasan al-Houri, the supervisor of the lab, explained that the administration of the lab works to provide technical service, resolve problems and malfunctions for the machines, regulate use of the lab by all the Faculty's students, and direct them towards specialized scientific websites that are useful for them.
