On the twenty-second of March, events for the international symposium on “entrepreneurship” that are held in cooperation between Damascus University and the University of Utara Malaysia began in the Faculty of Economics at Damascus University. The President of Damascus University, Dr. Wael Mualla, pointed out the significance of the subject of entrepreneurship in the development of scientific and academic cooperation between the universities, especially for students in the Faculty of Economics where it helps by providing them information and informing them of new things in this area. He stressed that the convening of this symposium is an opportunity for researchers from both universities to benefit from the experience and to discuss the prospects for cooperation between them, including the possible creation of joint programs at the graduate level.Dr. Mualla also mentioned that the economic developments in Syria have been reflected in the University’s programs in order to keep up with recent economic advancements in various international universities.In turn, Nazaruddin Zinedin, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Utara Malaysia noted the importance of this seminar in promoting cooperation between the universities in Syria and Malaysia. Through this seminar, they look into issues of economic concern that are important to both countries, particularly in the area of industrial development and Islamic finance, and entrepreneurship and higher education.And Dr. Mustafa al-Abdullah al-Kafri, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Damascus University, said that the main objectives of this seminar are to strengthen cooperation between the Malaysian universities and Damascus University, especially in the field of economics, to present modern economic theories and methods for analyzing economic and administrative reform, in addition to training, cultural interaction and communication between Syrian and Malaysian universities. Just as the seminar aims to allow academics from both countries to establish effective dialogue, exchange views and expertise, and open up a diverse horizon to students and teachers in both countries in the area of scientific research, specialization, graduate studies and industrial training.The three main topics for discussion at the seminar are: Industrial Development and SME’s: Opportunities and Challenges, Islamic Finance: Innovation in Islamic Financial Products, and Entrepreneurship in Higher Education: Practices and Challenges.
