The College of Pharmacy Organizes a Scientific Day About Medicinal Plants
The University of Damascus College of Pharmacy organized a Day of Science on February 24th to highlight medicinal plants, their effects, and the drugs made from them.
Dr. Wael Mulla, the President of the University of Damascus remarked that this day could be considered a step onto towards stimulating scientific research, since it addresses a topic that has large repercussions on human health.This kind of event gets at the heart of the interests and strategic goals of the university, because it encourages scientific research as well as the exchange of knowledge and expertise among specialists.
Dr. Ahmed Samir al Nouri, the President of the Department of Medicines in the College of Pharmacy, explained that the Science Day event allows pharmaceutical companies to benefit from the research that the masters students are currently working on, in addition to giving the students the opportunity to examine the latest pharmaceutical products. He goes on to say that the extraction of the drug from plants by a monitored, scientific method contributes to the reduction of the unorganized proliferation of unsafe herbal medications.
Also worth mention, throughout the past year the Directorate of Health analyzed more than fifteen thousand products 89.5% of which were found to have acceptable results, which allows Syrian medicinal products to occupy a distinguished position in exports.
