On April 21st, Dr. Jamal Abbas, Secretary of the Party Branch at the University of Damascus, and Dr. Wael Mualla, President of the University of Damascus, opened the educational geologic exhibition at the Faculty of Sciences which included the results of Geological Camp no. 30. The camp was held in Lattakia last summer in order to conduct capacity building in development and usage of geological maps and defining their components and basic structure.The two-day exhibition also includes demonstration tests of pumping to collect hydrological information from the water table based on rock samples collected from sites which were surveyed during the camp. The exhibition also includes geological devices used to measure electro-magnetic and seismic data as well as mock-ups of the camp which measured pumping discharge and the falling water table. A short documentary film was screened during the opening highlighting the importance of the camp at Um-Tiyur and the geological importance of the area.Dr. Salim Hamid said this exhibition shows the products of the first student geological camp after allocation of the land to the University of Damascus and the Faculty of Geology in order to further its already outstanding geology credentials.
