On Sunday, April 11, 2010, the Faculty of Political Science at Damascus University launched an academic activity in order to promote academic exchange between Ankara University in the Turkish Republic and Damascus University as well as to enhance social interactions between the youth of both countries. The activity took place with the participation of 48 students from the Department of International Relations in the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University in addition to a number of students from the Faculties of Letters, Economics and Political Science from Damascus University.The activity included a lecture on the history of Syria, both ancient and modern, by Dr. Muhammad Yufa, a professor in the Faculty of Arts at Damascus University. This was followed by a rest period during which students of both universities got to know each other and discussed several topics of concern to the youth of the two friendly countries.Then Professor Chari Irhan, a teacher in the Faculty of Political Science at Ankara University, gave a lecture on the foreign policy of Turkey.In conclusion Professor Irhan conveyed his heartfelt thanks to Damascus University for hosting this activity and expressed the desire of Ankara University to host students from Damascus in a similar activity. He also stressed the importance of continuing to hold such shared endeavors between the two universities because of the profound impact they make on the development and strengthening of cooperative relations in various fields.
