Culture Week began on the 25th of April hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Department of English. Dr. Wahab Rumia, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, said in his speech that this week will be the beginning for future Culture Weeks in all sections of the Faculty of Arts.  He noted its importance in introducing students to the society's culture and to encourage communication with each other. In turn Dr. Yahya Al-Aridi, head of the English department, pointed to the importance of cultural activities that have been held by his department, as well as scientific trips and social events. The actor Bassam Kusa told students in a speech that Syrian drama has achieved significant presence in the Arab community because it carries important messages for society and is a necessary and important art in that it portrays habits and the culture of Syrian society. The first day of Culture Week included a lecture on the official English language and modernizing pronunciation of the teacher and the learner given by Dr. Suleiman Mohammed Al-Ahmed.  Dr. Nabil Buti gave a speech entitled "The Energy of Love Heals" where he screened two short documentary films, one of which was entitled "The world as I see it" by the student As'ad Hanash.  The film shed light on the aspirations of young people and their plans for their future to achieve their dreams, which sometimes oppose the will of the family.  The coach Ro'a Al-Suman gave a lecture on personal development entitled "Human Growth and Self Development, A Journey of Change."

A group of fourth-year students from the English department put on a concert playing the oud, bouzouki, and percussion.  The group played a range of traditional and popular songs which won applause and admiration from the students in the audience.

Culture Week activities continue until April 27th with lectures from a number of professors in addition to sketches, poems, concerts, along with participation from students from the Department of English.
