The faculty of Agriculture organizes a symposium on the development of livestock production

The department of livestock development within the University of Damascus’s faculty of Agriculture, organized a scientific symposium in coordination with researchers, professors and experts in the field of livestock production from Syrian Universities, the General comission for Agricultural Research, the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD), and provincial directors of agriculture and agricultural reform.The president of Damascus University, Dr. Wael Mualla stressed the importance of this symposium which aims to spread knowledge and exchange scientific data concerning important research topics which deal with the development of livestock production and physically improving the university’s connection to societal needs. He pointed out that the important role which the School of Agriculture has played in the past as well as its contribution, working with different research organizations in the region, to develop new cultivation techniques and methods of bio-control. The improvement in the quality of agricultural production and output plays a significant role in national economy.Dr. Wael Mualla hopes that by attending and contributing their input, the researchers will benefit from their collective knowledge and produce effective results. The dean of the School of Agriculture, Dr. Hamza Bilal pointed out that the symposium will discuss livestock production as one of the most important elements in overall agricultural production, while focusing on care, breeding, nutrition and reproductive health. He added that the sector of livestock production includes poultry, cattle, sheep, goats, camels, horses. There will be serious scientific discussions between researchers and experts, investigating existing problems and their solution, with the overall goal of developing a clear and serious outlook for the field. As part of this strategy, the symposium will cover a number of important issues, most importantly improving production output and quality, as well as raising the level of cost-effectiveness.Chief of the department of livestock production, Dr. Musa Aboud said that the primary goals of the symposium reflect the obstacles we face in developing livestock production. This symposium provides the space for scientists and researchers to present their results and discuss them, as well as exchanging experiences and proposing solutions that contribute to the development and sustainability of livestock production. He also indicated the importance of undertaking field trials on livestock production in cooperation with the producers in order to ensure increased benefits and quicker application of the results. The two-day symposium dealt with issues concerning the production of ruminants, poultry, breeding, genetic improvement and health of the livestock as well as the welfare of the producer.
