A Ceremony Honoring Students Winning the Second Green Competition at the Faculty of Science

In cooperation with Damascus Petrochemical Refinery, the Faculty of Science at Damascus University honored students who won the second Green Competition, which included presenting scientific research on ridding petroleum-based products and mineral base oils of color and odors.

 

In a statement to journalists, Vice President for Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Muhammad Firas Al-Hinnawi, pointed out that the competition in its second edition was distinguished in terms of the participation of students from all Syrian universities. He also noted that the submitted research was judged by a competent, specialized committee.

 

Dean of the Faculty of Science, Dr. Hammoud Al-Ourabi, explained that the competition is part of an agreement of cooperation between the university and the refinery, with the aim of linking the university with society and national institutions. This includes supporting the process of transferring scientific and technical knowledge, implementing joint basic and applied scientific research in the field of environmental development, participating in the supervision of graduate students and holding joint training courses to qualify staff in all fields. Dr. Al-Ourabi pointed out that the competition aims to deepen the scientific knowledge of students in the field of chemistry, expressing his hope that the competition will become a tradition that contributes to raising the scientific level of students in all fields of chemistry.

 

In turn, the Director of Public Relations at the Damascus Refinery, Julia Awad stated that the number of participants in the competition reached 80 students from various Syrian universities.
