Third International Conference on Biomedical Engineering Concluded

 The Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University concluded the Third International Conference on Biomedical Engineering, which was held on the 28-30th of April 2024 under the title “Medical Engineering and Health Care” hosting 17 Arab and foreign countries.

 

The recommendations emphasized several issues including upgrading medical engineering and medical devices based on artificial intelligence and documenting medical cases for interested researchers, in addition to developing a strategic national plan in cooperation with all care providers to promote medical care as per artificial intelligence standards.

 

The participants also recommended orientating research in Syrian universities; in faculties such as, Medical Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy, towards unexplored artificial intelligence areas. Also, recommendations included liaising with producers of artificial intelligence technology in the field of biomedical engineering in other countries as well as the transfer and localization of this technology, providing more facilities to small businesses related to manufacturing medical equipment and supplies.

 

The participants also called for cooperation between the Department of Medical Engineering and medical equipment companies in order to make graduation projects  and departmental research viable, to support research related to bioinformatics, nanotechnology, and tissue engineering and to establish new partnerships with medical engineering departments in Arab and international universities, especially with regard to joint post-graduate research, and they called for student exchange.

 

Finally, it was recommended to enhance the cooperation between the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Ministry of Health in terms of training students and documenting that training as an official university prerequisite for graduation; Cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Industry was emphasized as  well in order to start manufacturing medical devices and prosthetics locally.
