Faculty of Medicine Organizes a Scientific Day on Pregnancy and Internal Diseases

 

Departments of Obstetrics and Internal diseases at Faculty of Medicine, in cooperation with Obstetrics and Gynaecology University Hospital, organized a scientific day about “Pregnancy and Internal diseases”. Lectures included topics, such as postpartum depression, blood transfusion, epilepsy during pregnancy, cholestasis of pregnancy, gestational diabetes, thyroid disorders and pregnancy.  

 

Dean of the faculty, Dr. Sobhi Al-Bahri, stated that the scientific day targets postgraduates who are required to familiarize themselves with specializations different from their own, in addition to knowing about the mechanisms of diagnosis and treatment and the latest developments in internal diseases.

 

Dr. Salah Al-Sheikha, Director of the Obstetrics Gynaecology Hospital emphasized the importance of the topic of internal diseases, pregnancy and gynaecological diseases in general- given the medical conditions of newborns and mothers at risk in the hospital.

 

Dr. Dima Adwan, pointed out that cooperation between multiple departments enriches both doctors’ knowledge at the beginning of their medical careers and their clinical practice later.

 

Head of the Department of Internal Medicine at the Faculty, Dr. Amin Suleiman, spoke in his lecture about the topic of massive bleeding and massive blood transfusion, a serious problem in all specialties especially obstetrics.

 

Dr. Muhammad Shehadeh Agha discussed the topic of epilepsy in pregnant women, and the distinction between maternal eclampsia and epilepsy which worsens during pregnancy.

 

Head of Division of Gastrointestinal Diseases at Al-Mouwasat University Hospital, Dr. Ahmed Wassouf, focused on gestational stasis causes, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.

 

The scientific day activities were attended by a number of professors and postgraduates from various specializations.
