Towards Sustainable Development: Opening a Bio-fermenter at the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering

 The Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Damascus University, in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students and ACSAD, opened "Bio fermenter", as part of the cooperation agreement signed between the University of Damascus and ACSAD.

 

In the opening speech, Vice President of the University for Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Mayssa Al-Sioufi, indicated that the opening of the bio-fermenter is an embodiment of several goals, the first of which is activating the partnerships established by the university, which were evident in the scientific and academic cooperation agreement with ACSAD organization to advance the agricultural situation, and the second goal is to direct the college’s research to serve the community. The most important goal is to provide an applied research environment for students to carry out the necessary experiments to complete their research and learn about modern technologies used globally.

 

Dr. Nasr Al-Din Al-Ubaid, Director General of ACSAD, stressed the importance of spreading the culture of producing and using alternative and renewable energies and integrating them into the development process. He also pointed out ACSAD’s keenness to adopt, develop and disseminate the latest biotechnology, especially renewable energy technology.

 

Dean of Faculty of Agricultural Engineering, Professor Dr. Afraa Salloum, pointed out that the bio-fermenter emphasizes the importance of linking the university with society and its role in finding solutions to problems and providing the latest technologies.

 

It is noteworthy that the production of the bio-fermenter amounts to 4 cubic meters of gas per month, which is equivalent to 4 gas cylinders, each with a capacity of 14 kg.

 

The opening was attended by deputy deans of the faculty, director of 8th of March Agricultural Facility, department heads, professors and students, and a number of experts and specialists from (ACSAD).
