Day Two of "Preserving Heritage and Identity" Symposium

 The second day "Preserving Heritage and Identity" symposium at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Damascus University, featured scientific sessions covering various topics linking national identity and cultural heritage. The focus was on historical, legal, and social dimensions, examining the relationship between heritage and national identity from multiple angles, including arts, media, literature, and social communication.

 

In the first session, Dr. Hasan Al-Ahmad discussed linguistic and social changes among the youth in the context of globalization during his lecture "Identity and Language: a Sociolinguistic Comparison.” He highlighted the challenges facing the Arabic language as part of identity and proposed ways to enhance its role among younger generations.

 

Ayman Suleiman reviewed "The Legal Protection of Syrian Cultural Heritage," discussing the legal framework for protecting Syrian cultural heritage, including international agreements and relevant national legislation.

 

In her lecture "Preserving Cultural Identity and Heritage," Dr. Yara Murhej, focused on the relationship between cultural identity and heritage, underscoring the importance of documentation and the role of scientific research in preserving heritage.

 

Dr. Fouad Dahdouh, in his paper "Identity and Heritage in Syrian Art," explored the development of cultural identity through the works of Syrian artists in the visual arts, highlighting the importance of preserving heritage as a source of creative inspiration.

 

Dr. Saed Salloum, in his presentation "Identity and Heritage in Syrian Photography," reviewed how Syrian photography documents heritage and emphasized the roles played by Syrian photographers in enhancing identity.

 

Prof. Hossam Ghazi, in his lecture "Primary Expression Spaces: Early Syrian Art as a Model," discussed the development of early Syrian art and how it reflected local cultural identity in its historical and social context.

 

Dr. Louay Al-Zoubi, in his paper "The Role of Media in Preserving Cultural Identity," pointed out the importance of media in spreading cultural awareness and preserving heritage through social media platforms and documentary programs.

 

Dr. Abeer Sorour, in her presentation "Utilizing Social Media Applications to Promote Tangible Heritage," discussed the role of technology and social media in spreading awareness about tangible heritage and supporting preservation efforts.

 

Tahir Habka, in his presentation "Resistance in Contemporary Folk Literature," discussed the role of folk literature in documenting struggle and enhancing national values through tales, proverbs, chants, and poems.

 

Prof. Amal Hamdi Dakkak, in her lecture "Rahbanis and Enhancing National Identity," highlighted the works of the Rahbani brothers in music and theater, and their role in promoting national belonging by reviving artistic heritage.

 

Mohammad Zahra, in his presentation "Media and Identity," discussed the role of media in building national identity, presenting examples of programs and initiatives that succeeded in highlighting Syrian cultural identity.

 

Ahmed Jalal Al-Ghazi, in his paper "The Aesthetics of Arabic Calligraphy," addressed the impact of Arabic calligraphy as a visual art reflecting heritage and identity, emphasizing the importance of supporting and developing it to remain part of the cultural heritage.
