Cow Farm at the Faculty of Agriculture: An Important Educational and Research Platform

 The production facility at the Faculty of Agriculture at Damascus University is considered an educational platform for the faculty students. It contributes to their education, training and enhancing their field experience. It also provides research services to both students and professors or researchers from public and private bodies to conduct scientific research and studies. 

Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Afraa Salloum, pointed out that the cow farm has witnessed a remarkable development during the past period through the efforts of those in charge of its management and their direct supervision of improving the existing breeds and preserving Shami cows, which are considered a wealth that distinguishes the Faculty of Agriculture in light of the significant decline in their number.

Dr. Amjad Al-Youssef, Director of the Facility, described the current situation of the cow farm as good, especially after overcoming the difficulties it was suffering from, related to securing fodder, medicines, nutritional supplements and vitamins, through developing a special program for nutrition and vitamins by specialists from the Animal Production Department.

Dr. Musa Abboud, Head of Animal Production Department at the Faculty, stated that the department is concerned with livestock and its components, mainly Shami cows, noting that this breed has become endangered.
