Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at Damascus University, in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Federation of Arab Engineers and the Syrian Engineers Syndicate, organized a symposium entitled “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Engineering,” with the participation of researchers and academics from local and international universities. The symposium will continue for two days in the Umayyad Hall at Cham Hotel.
During his speech at the symposium, Chairman of the Medical Engineering Technology Committee at the Federation of Arab Engineers, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Fakhri Fleih from Iraq, stressed the importance of cooperation between academic and engineering institutions to develop innovative solutions that contribute to the advancement of the Arab medical sector, stressing the need to enhance the use of artificial intelligence in the field of medical engineering, as it is one of the most important fields that is witnessing rapid development.
President of the Syrian Engineers Syndicate, Dr. Eng. Ghiath Qatini, stressed the importance of organizing such specialized scientific events that shed light on modern technologies in the fields of engineering, especially artificial intelligence applications in medical engineering.
Dr. Rasha Masoud, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, explained the importance of the symposium, noting that it represents an important opportunity to introduce the latest research and developments in this advanced field, with the participation of Arab and local governmental and private universities.
In the first session, Chairman of the Medical Engineering Committee of the Engineers Syndicate, Damascus Branch, and Vice President of the Arab International University, Dr. Mohammad Firas Al-Hinnawi, gave a lecture entitled "AI in Medical Technology". During the lecture, he gave an in-depth explanation of the applications of artificial intelligence in the medical field, pointing to the qualitative transformations that these technologies have brought about in the development of medical devices and the diagnosis of diseases.
Also in the first session, Dr. Eng. Hadeel Qasim Al-Jubouri from Al-Nahrain University in Iraq gave a lecture entitled “Artificial Intelligence in Medical Imaging”. She discussed the role of artificial intelligence in the field of medical imaging, explaining how artificial intelligence technologies have made a breakthrough in improving the accuracy and speed of medical diagnosis.
Dr. Eng. Mahmood Farhan Musleh from Middle Technical University in Iraq also gave a lecture entitled “A Compact Triple Band PIFA Design for 5G Mobile Handsets”. He reviewed an innovative design for a compact PIFA (Planar Inverted-F Antenna) that operates in three frequency bands dedicated to 5G mobile technologies.
Dr. Moustafa Al-Mawaldi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Symposium, explained that this event is being held for the first time in Syria in cooperation with the Federation of Arab Engineers.
