“Creativity Meets Challenges for Scientific and Technological Progress”: A Conference at the Faculty of Science

 In the presence of Minister of Higher Education, Prof Bassam Ibrahim, and President of Damascus University, Prof Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, the Fourteenth International Scientific Conference of the Iraqi Mathematical Society began under the slogan: “Creativity Meets Challenges for Scientific and Technological Progress,” which is organized by the Faculty of Science at the Damascus University and the Iraqi Mathematical Society, in cooperation with the Second Faculty of Science, Daraa Branch, and Al-Anwar Center for Development and Education in Iraq.

 

Dr. Al-Jabban, stressed the importance of these conferences and joint work for the sake of development and knowledge, noting the importance of mathematics as a basic science on which all sciences are based. He also noted that the Arabs were among its founders and left a valuable scientific legacy in this field. Dr. Jabban also praised the distinguished scientific activities carried out by the Faculty of Science this year, as it made great strides in the field of external international research publishing according to the Scopus database, and was ranked fourth among the university’s faculties in this field, calling on graduate students to work more on periodic publishing under the supervision of professors.

 

For his part, Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Hammoud Al-Orabi, stated that the conference aims to shed light on the role of mathematics and its sciences in stimulating creativity and scientific and technological progress and exchanging ideas and innovations in multiple fields.

 

President of the Iraqi Mathematical Society, Dr. Noori Farhan Al-Mayahi said that the conference is witnessing an active participation of researchers from Iraq, Syria and other countries through (44) research papers. channels of communication between Iraqi, Arab, and foreign educational and research institutions.

 

In a statement to the media, Director of the Daraa, Branch, Dr. Shawki Al-Rashed, indicated that the conference embodies true scientific partnership through cooperation with the Iraqi side, and contributes to the exchange of scientific expertise between professors and researchers in the field of basic and applied sciences in both countries.

 

The two-day conference in the Physics Amphitheater includes four main themes: mathematics and its applications, statistics and information, computers and smart applications, and physics and its applications. Researchers participate through 44 scientific papers.
