Cardiology Division at Mouwasat University Hospital Presents Diagnostic and therapeutic ambulatory services

The Cardiology Division is one of the most important divisions in Mouwasat Hospital, as it receives dozens of patients around the clock daily and provides them with all services.

 

Dr. Mohamed Mubarak, Head of the Division, explained that the division includes several units: cardiac catheterization, cardiac ultrasound "echo cardiac ultrasound", cardiac stress test, intensive cardiac care, two male and female wards, a cardiac clinic, a cardiac consultation clinic, and an internal cardiac consultation clinic, which receives cases from all departments of the hospital in addition to cases from other hospitals.

 

Dr. Mubarak indicated that each of the previous units is managed by supervisors and faculty members from the Faculty of Medicine. These units train graduate students in general internal medicine and cardiology.

 

Dr. Mubarak pointed out that the division includes 33 beds and receives dozens of patients daily from the age of 14 years and older.

According to Dr. Mubarak, the Cardiology Division includes the latest equipment, including two Echo devices for the heart, an eco-color Doppler and a transesophageal echocardiogram and a pharmacological stress test device. In the intensive cardiac care there are two devices, one of which is a portable eco-color Doppler for use in emergency cases within the hospital, and a pharmacological stress test device that is used in the cardiac ultrasound unit and a cardiac stress test. Dr. Mubarak also noted that the devices are working well and maintenance is carried out periodically.

 

As for the cases that need to be accepted in the division, Dr. Mubarak stated that they are:

Myocardial infarction, heart failure, acute pulmonary edema, in addition to cardiac study cases such as valvular heart diseases, congenital heart diseases. Cases that need emergency surgery are transferred to the University Cardiac Surgery Hospital adjacent to Mouwasat Hospital. 

 

With regard to the cadres of the Medical Division, Dr. Mubarak pointed out that it includes a number of faculty and technical staff, contracted supervising doctors, doctors working in the hospital, in addition to graduate students and experienced nursing staff.

 

Dr. Mubarak said that the work of the Division does not depend on the provision of medical services only. The unit carries out a number of activities and scientific sessions that fall within the training curriculum for graduate students, in addition to annual scientific seminars held by the Department of Internal Medicine at the hospital.

 

At the end of his speech, Dr. Al Mubarak revealed a future plan to modernize and maintain the existing equipment, secure a new cardiac catheterization device, secure a multi-slice CT scan device to diagnose coronary lesions and congenital heart lesions not diagnosed by cardiac Doppler echocardiography, in addition to expanding the medical staff.
