Since its establishment a hundred years ago, Damascus University has sought to enhance the role of women and empower them. There have always been experiences of pioneering female researchers from Damascus University. From this standpoint, the Female Academic Empowerment Unit and the Businesswomen Committee of Damascus Chamber of Commerce organized a ceremony to honor 43 young female researchers from Damascus University, according to the conditions and standards set by the Directorate of Scientific Research at the university.
Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, stressed the importance of honoring young female researchers at Damascus University for their distinguished scientific research in all fields. He thanked the female researchers who presented distinguished scientific research that contributed to raising the ranking of Damascus University at the global level.
President of Damascus University, Prof. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, pointed out the importance of honoring young female researchers based on the university’s belief in the importance of scientific research, especially among young women, which imposes a responsibility on them towards the university and society.
Prof. Al-Jabban explained that the university spared no effort to enable female researchers to reach what they have reached today, and its first and last goal was for them to excel in serving society through science and knowledge, stressing that female researchers are the best ambassadors for Damascus University in spreading the message of science and enlightenment.
Vice President of Damascus University, Professor Maysaa Al-Sioufi, stressed the importance of the event announced by the Presidency of Damascus University and the Syrian Female Academic Empowerment Unit to honor young female researchers last March in celebration of Women’s Day and Mother’s Day. The honoring coincided with the beginning of the second centenary of Damascus University.
Prof. Al-Sioufi thanked the sponsoring parties, which showed their great interest in community support, women’s empowerment, and supporting everything related to education and research, noting that the event opens the way for young female researchers to find their way into the field of business and innovation.
Director of Scientific Research at Damascus University, Dr. Ghaith Warkozek, referred to the importance of the honoring in motivating young female researchers to complete research its reflection on the subject of development and reconstruction. He also explained that Damascus University always seeks to support male and female researchers.
President of the Businesswomen Committee of Damascus Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Sonia Khanji, praised the university’s efforts and its material and moral support for the success of the Young Female Researchers Competition, which resulted in honoring 43 female researchers out of 133 research papers that participated in the competition.
In her speech on behalf of female researchers, researcher Dr. Abeer Al-Assod, who ranked first, emphasized the role of Syrian women and their contribution to creating a new reality based on innovation, science and giving.
Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Samer Mohsen, said that the event is a generous initiative from the presidency of Damascus University, as it highlights its identity and message supporting scientific research and its cadres, including female researchers.
