As part of its academic activities and efforts to improve knowledge and specialised training among its students and graduates in the field of temporomandibular disorders, the Faculty of Dentistry at Damascus University hosted a workshop entitled "Methods of Contemporary Diagnosis and Management."

Professor Khaldoun Darwish, the dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, emphasised the value of the specialised courses and workshops that the Faculty organises in collaboration with the Office of Professional Practice. He explained that in addition to specialists from the Dentists Syndicate and other universities, these activities are led by professors from the Faculty with the goal of advancing continuing education and developing the abilities of students, recent graduates, and practicing dentists. The workshop aims to provide a platform for interaction between academics and practitioners in this field to exchange experiences.

Professor Omar Hishmah, the vice dean for administrative affairs, stated that the focus of this workshop is on temporomandibular joint problems, which are deemed serious due to their association with a patient's neurological condition. The workshop covered various topics including diagnosis, diseases, anatomy, and physiology.

The chair of the Fixed Prosthodontics Department, Professor  Shatha Qannout, explained that the workshop focuses on joint treatment, and several specialties of dentistry, such as prosthetics, orthodontics, and surgery. Professor Qannout added that the problems associated with the temporomandibular joint are often occlusal, which requires cooperation between these specialties to provide effective solutions. This workshop comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to improve patient care and develop treatment methods by integrating medical knowledge and modern techniques.

The scientific coordinator of the workshop, Professor  Issam Jamous, explained the importance of shedding light on the problems that affect the temporomandibular joint. He pointed out that these problems require treatment that requires an integrated team of specialists to ensure the provision of optimal care.  He explained that the workshop aims to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and experiences, which enhances the capabilities of dentists in diagnosing and treating temporomandibular joint disorders in more effective and comprehensive ways.
