The Garden of Hope at the Faculty of Agriculture, Damascus University, was awarded the most beautiful garden with a philosophical meaning at the 44th International Flower Exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in cooperation with Damascus Governorate in the period (26 June-14 July, 2024) in Tishreen Park, Damascus.
Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Afraa Salloum, says she feels proud for winning this award, which is one of the most important nationally and worldwide. According to Dr. Salloum, the faculty had previously participated in exhibitions, but this award is the first of its kind.
Designer and supervisor of the garden, engineer Batoul Hadi Sharaf, pointed out that the Garden of Hope presents a philosophical identity- which is unique. It is 1200-square-meter oval garden containing ten huge 50-year olive trees. Hence came the idea of the philosophical design with elements suitable for the current garden, such as a 3-meter oil canister, from which eight water fountains emerge that pour into a fixed lake around it, and a giant olive press, and paths and curves that mimic nature in the Syrian countryside.
It is worth to mention that the awards ceremony for the pavilions, nurseries and quality gardens participating in the International Flower Exhibition was held at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus amid a large official presence.
