Introductory Lecture at the Faculty of Law on Academic Fields of Study in Russian Universities

 A lecture organized by the Faculty of Law at Damascus University "online" in collaboration with the Russian Saratov State University, focused on academic fields of study in Russian universities and the academic opportunities available to students. It took place in the virtual courtroom of the faculty and was attended by the dean, his deputies, and representatives from the Russian Cultural Center.

 

At the beginning of the lecture, Dr. Sinan Ammar, Dean of the Faculty, provided an overview of Damascus University and the Faculty of Law. He emphasized the importance of enhancing scientific and academic cooperation with Russian universities in various areas, especially in student and faculty exchange programs. He proposed organizing courses for graduate students with the participation of professors from Russian universities.

 

Deputy Director of the Russian Cultural Center expressed gratitude to the university leadership and the Faculty of Law for providing the opportunity to present an overview of Russian scholarships directly to students. He mentioned that the Russian government offers around 1000 scholarships annually to Syrian students at all academic levels (undergraduate and graduate).

 

From the scholarship department at the Russian Cultural Center, Rami Arabi Katbi spoke about the application process for scholarships, including deadlines, requirements, and necessary documents. Applications are submitted electronically through the Russian House website by filling out information and uploading documents. Students can select a maximum of 6 universities, two in each Russian city. Results are released in February, followed by online interviews with a committee composed of representatives from various Russian universities. Student acceptance depends on their undergraduate GPA and performance in the interview.

 

A deputy dean from the Saratov Law Academy provided an introductory overview of the academy, its study system, departments, institutes, modern laboratories, and residential units. He highlighted its distinction in the field of law by producing graduates who hold prominent positions, expressing a desire to increase the number of Syrian students at the academy.

 

The head of the scholarship department at the Russian Cultural Center in Damascus stressed the importance of the lecture as an opportunity to familiarize Syrian students with Russian universities in general.

 

The lecture included video presentations showcasing landmarks and history of Saratov city and Saratov University, its specializations, study system, and student services. The Russian representatives answered students' and attendees' questions and inquiries at the end of the lecture.
