Mechanism of Ants’ Action in Early Warning of Disasters": A seminar at the Faculty of Civil Engineering

Higher Institute of Seismic Research and Studies at Damascus University organized a seminar entitled “Mechanism of Ants’ Action in Early Warning of Disasters,” presented by Professor Hussain Aziz Saleh, at the auditorium of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The seminar was opened by Dean of the Higher Institute of Seismic Research and Studies, Dr. Hala Hassan, who introduced Professor Saleh, the lecturer at the seminar. Dr. Hassan highlighted Dr. Saleh’s expertise in the field of disaster management, pointing to his research achievements and contributions to the development of early warning technologies for natural disasters. She also stressed the importance of the seminar in raising awareness about natural disasters and ways to deal with them through the use of advanced technologies in artificial intelligence.

Dr. Hussain Aziz Saleh obtained two PhDs; the first in 2000 from Britain on artificial intelligence in geomatics network design, and the second in 2017 from Belgium, where he developed these algorithms for application in environmental planning and disaster management. He is considered a pioneer in disaster management in Syria, as he contributed to establishing the Master’s Program in Disaster Management at Damascus University in 2010. He also contributed to implementing the “National Policy for Science, Technology and Innovation” between 2008 and 2017, which focused on using modern technologies to reduce disaster risks.
