Damascus University at the Egypt International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC)

Damascus University is participating in the 46th and the 47th International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) held this month (April 14-19) in Luxor, Egypt.

 

The event, with 2500 participants from 2000 universities in 111 countries worldwide, is the largest and the most important in the field of software. The teams competing are 300- the best out of about 40,000 teams which have already competed during the qualifiers.

 

 The Syrian delegation to the competition was headed by Prof Mhd Firas Alhinnawi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies. The Syrian teams participating are nine: Damascus University, Al-Baath University, and the Higher Institute for Scientific Studies and Research- with two teams each- and the Virtual University, Aleppo University and Tishreen University- with one team each.

 

The opening ceremony was held in Luxor Temple and was followed with a meeting of the coaches then the ICPC challenge on Monday, April 15, 2024.

 

The practice session, which simulates the official contest and prepares the teams for the contest, was on Tuesday April 16, during which contestants were given between 8 to 12 problems to solve within 5 hours.

 

On Wednesday, April 17, the official competition took place, and the winner is to be announced on Thursday, April 19, 2024, from the historic Temple of Hatshepsut in Luxor.
